La Manufacture, a CDCN in Nouvelle Aquitaine

La Manufacture CDCN is a national center for choreographic development based at the Manufacture de Chaussures in Bordeaux and the Chapelle Saint-Vincent in La Rochelle. Like the 14 other CDCNs in France, its artistic project focuses on the encounter between artworks and audiences. La Manufacture CDCNs aim is to develop contemporary dance in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region through demanding programming, support for emerging companies and artistic and cultural education initiatives. La Manufacture also produces digital and other resources.
La Manufacture CDCN
s Dance and other languages” project pays particular attention to the development of new multi-disciplinary projects, the outreach of the artistic community and exchanges between different practices.

dance and other artistic languages

Dance, in contact with other artistic languages, is at the heart of the new project of La Manufacture CDCN Nouvelle-Aquitaine Bordeaux – La Rochelle. Awarded the CDCN label in 2007, La Manufacture is committed to dance, creation, artists and communities. Its public-interest action is based on an artistic and cultural program relating to the Centre de Développement Chorégraphique National” label, prescribed in the decree of May 5, 2017. In carrying out its project, La Manufacture has set itself three priority axes that are deployed across the territory of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, and in particular Bordeaux, its metropolis, the Gironde Department, La Rochelle, and the Charente Maritime Department.

◊ Giving new energy to choreographic creation
accompanying dancers/choreographers – disseminating emerging and repertory pieces.

◊ Reaching out to people
mediation – artistic and cultural education – practice workshops – resource production – regular training for artists and education and culture professionals.

◊ Open up to hybrid and transdisciplinary forms
special attention to theatrical and multidisciplinary writing, welcoming and leading the artistic community.

Networks

La Manufacture CDCN also networks with its partners to develop choreographic creation.

A-CDCN (Association des Centres de Développement Chorégraphique Nationaux)

A-CDCN is the network of national choreographic development centers.

Today, it brings together 13 establishments that play a structuring role for the choreographic sector in France, complementing the National Choreographic Centers (CCN) and the National Dance Center (CND). At the heart of their work is the development of choreographic creation and its encounter with audiences. They play an active role in supporting and promoting choreographic creation. CDCNs also organize the presence of dance within their territory, and implement educational tools and cultural action projects that promote the development of choreographic culture and its appropriation by a wide audience.

LOOP – Professional network for dance and young audiences

LOOP grew out of a meeting of co-producing partners around a project to commission dance pieces for young audiences, as part of the Belle Saison (2014-2016), a project produced by Le Gymnase CDCN Roubaix in partnership with La Manufacture CDCN. Based on this project, the Loop network was formed in February 2016, with the aim of continuing the reflection on dance for young audiences. The network is supported by Le Gymnase CDCN.

Its objectives are as follows:

– A platform for exchanges and meetings between programmers on the subject of dance for young audiences

– to share expertise and information on current and future projects

– Support for projects (co-production or dissemination)

– Mediation and training in dance for young audiences

– International scouting

Petites Scènes Ouvertes

Founded in 2004, Les Petites Scènes Ouvertes is a national network for emerging dance artists, supporting and promoting young choreographers. Today, the network brings together 7 structures throughout France to promote contemporary choreographic creation. Every season, the Grande Scène is organized, a major event bringing together choreographic works and professionals.

Support for dance creation

Today, dance production in France relies heavily on structured dance networks such as the Centres Chorégraphiques Nationaux and the Centres de Développement Chorégraphique Nationaux, places committed to supporting artists and creation. Through various forms of financial support (Accueil-Studio, co-production, residencies, research, etc.), La Manufacture works closely with choreographers and dancers. The ways in which La Manufacture supports choreographers and dancers are many and varied, depending on the projects envisaged by the artists.

Each season, La Manufacture supports more than fifteen artists in production and/or distribution.

The artists supported this season by La Manufacture CDCN are :

Artiste Associée – Anne Nguyen (2023-2025)

artistes en compagnonnage à La Manufacture – La Tierce (since 2017)

Support for emerging theatrical and multidisciplinary talent

The aim of this program is to support emerging and new theatrical and multidisciplinary writing. Emerging artists and young creators are looking for work spaces, production resources and recognition. Often these teams resort to economic models based on self-production. La Manufacture CDCN has joined forces with a number of partners to create a more favorable ecosystem for the production and distribution of certain artists from its local area.
